In someone in your home snores, you have no doubt searched high and low for a cure for snoring. Anyone who loses sleep due to the dull sounding roar of a snoring person is frustrated and tired. The idea of a cure for snoring is one that is hoped for by many but seems doubtful after a night of tossing, turning and prodding the snorer next to you.
There is little doubt that those who live with a snoring partner or who snore themselves are robbed nightly of precious sleep. Unfortunately, for the person that snores, cures can be elusive and often times ineffective over the long run.
For Those Who Snore, Cures Often Prove Elusive
It is important to review the lifestyle of the individual that snores to determine if there are possible lifestyle changes that can be implemented to reduce the occurrence and or severity of the nightly disruption. Many simple lifestyle changes such as a reduction in alcohol, smoking, overeating or exercise can affect the snoring habits of an individual.
Lifestyle Changes Can Provide Cures For Snoring
Alcohol and tobacco consumption each have an affect on the nasal and airway passages. If you are an individual that snores it is important to recognize that these two chemicals will negatively affect your body and increase the amount snoring that will occur when under their influence.
If sleep apnea, insomnia or sleep disruption due to personal snoring is a problem, you might want to discontinue using either of these substances. By making this decision and implementing the lifestyle change, you may have provided a cure for your snoring problem.
Overeating, being overweight or eating heavy meals within three hours of going to bed can also adversely affect your sleeping habits and the bodies ability to breathe properly once you have fallen asleep. Implementing a dietary change, increasing your exercise and reducing your body weight and eating a lighter evening meal may provide benefits that will be noticed in the reduction of your snoring as well.
It is a very widespread belief that the issues of weight and snoring are closely tied and the reduction in weight can be a cure for snoring problems.
Another cause of snoring can be allergies that block the nasal passages and affect the throat. If this is a major cause for concern in resolving your snoring problems, you might consider visiting an allergist to discover how you might modify your response to airborne allergens. Many times, reducing the number of dust mites, pet dander and mold in your bedroom can immediately reduce the allergic reactions you suffer and reduce your nightly snoring.
Searching For A Cure For Snoring Is A Personal Study
Trying to find a cure for snoring is really a cause and effect study in your lifestyle and sleeping habits. If you take the time to analyze your current lifestyle and behaviors, you may be able to simply decrease the snoring by modifying your behaviors.
There are many people that cannot stop snoring just by way of behavior modification, but prior to investigating surgery, it would be wise to evaluate smaller changes that might make a big difference in the long run.

“See a surgeon!”
“Surgeon; Surgery (from the Greek cheirourgia – lit. “hand work”) is the medical specialty that treats diseases or injuries by operative manual and instrumental treatment. Surgeons are medical practitioners who specialize in surgery.”
One way to stop your “snoring problem” is to consult your surgeon and undergo a medical procedure such as the uvulopalatopharyngoplasty or UPPP.
UPPP is a medical process to lessen or completely eliminate the snoring in an individual. With this process, the surgeon will remove excess tissues in your throat to widen the air passageway.
Some tissues of the throat may or may not be removed depending on the severity of snoring. Common throat tissues which are removed are:
-Uvula : A cone-shaped projection hanging down from the soft palate in the oropharynx. The uvula may become swollen and enlarged in people who snore.
-Soft palate
-Pharynx : space behind the mouth that serves as a passage for food from the mouth to the esophagus and for air from the nose and mouth to the larynx.
-Tonsils : Organs at the back of the throat that help the body fight off viral and bacterial infections; part of the immune system. No longer routinely removed when they become infected. – Adenoids : Glands or lymphoid tissue in the upper part of throat below the nose, also known as the pharyngeal tonsil.
Medical studies show that patients who have undergone UPPP experience severe pain after the surgery. The following dangers are also seen with this procedure:
-Lack of sleep due to post-surgery prescriptions.
-Trouble in swallowing.
-Possibility to develop infection, inflammation in the throat area and to some extent excessive bleeding.
Apart from UPPP, you can also opt to undergo somnoplasty. Somnoplasty is a contemporary medical procedure to make your snoring stop.
At a lower level, power and temperature radio frequency energy is being utilized under this treatment where the section of the uvula and soft palate is treated. According to medical studies, post surgery risks are nominal although you may experience uneasiness a few days after the surgery.
Another recent medical procedure is the coblation-channeling to help cure snoring. The procedure involves eliminating some tissue through the method of “molecular disintegration.” Furthermore, some tissues may also be heated so the soft palate will reduce in size and stiffen.
Recuperation after undergoing coblation-channeling normally takes about seven days. Afterwards, you can now pursue your usual daily tasks. More significantly, you and your partner will have better mornings due to a good night sleep.
It is recommended that surgery should be your last option especially if your snoring is still curable with natural remedies.

Often times we tend to find humor whenever we see an article in a magazine or in newspapers about a couple getting divorced because one of them was snoring. But in reality the habit of snoring is much more serious than that. It is more than a mere nuisance. Snoring can also lead to some serious social and health problems. Occurrences such as an increased risk of diabetes, stroke, heart disease and high blood pressures have all been linked with snoring in certain instances.
Obviously, both the sleeping partner and the snorer lose their sleep due to snoring. As a result of the snoring, the snorer may wake up several times and this also affects the sleeping pattern of the spouse. The next day, the couple will have to deal with factors such as a lack of productivity, irritability and sleepiness due to the night before.
Snoring can often force one of the spouses to sleep in another room, which will have a serious effect on the overall relationship. Social and physical intimacies of a couple can also be affected by the snoring. The couple becomes unhappy over time and the snoring partner begins to feel isolated.
Actually, there are several different levels of snoring. Mild snoring can be cured by merely waking up and perhaps turning to the opposite side. If a person continues to snore in spite of changes in sleeping positions, then this is considered to be severe snoring.
Severe snoring can cause severe sleep deprivation for the couple which can lead to a number of negative health factors. The immune system can begin to respond poorly to the healing process, it can lead to very poor emotional and mental health, mood changes, and it can cause a person to not think very clearly and react slowly to threatening situations.
There are several causes of snoring. Items such as heredity, obesity, approaching old age, being a male, smoking, lacking good health fitness, deformities in the nose, tonsils or enlarged adenoids, lengthy soft-palate, alcoholism, allergies, cold, sinus infection and sleeping on the back can all cause snoring to some degree. In order to stop snoring, it is a good item to try losing weight, sleeping on your side, sleeping without a pillow, trying to elevate the head at least four inches from the bed, avoid smoking or secondary smoke, do not eat heavy food or alcohol before bed and say no to high-fat dairy products before bed time.
If none of the above items do not provide relief, then try consulting a good ENT practitioner, who may suggest continuous positive airway pressure which is nothing but sleeping with an air mask to get continuous air pressure in the throat which should reduce the snoring if not stop it completely. In any event, there are many options available to address problem snoring.

Obstructive sleep apnea is also called sleep apnea. Obstructive means there is something that is blocking your airway when you lie down to sleep. If you find it difficult to sleep, that you are gasping for breath, and you are always snoring, a sleep machine could give you results that you need to get the rest you need without interrupting your breathing patterns. The airway passages that are sealed or partially sealed as you sleep cause you to stop breathing. As you stop breathing you are adding stress on your heart, on your body and you will not feel rested in the morning.
A breathing machine can help you get the air you need, the oxygen that you need, and the rest you need to keep you going. The signs of sleep apnea include those of always being tired, that you are irritable because you are not sleeping good, and you have difficultly focusing your eyes, or your mind when concentrating during the day.
As you are unable to get the air you need, the oxygen you need to replenish your body you are putting your self at risk for additional medical conditions and problems. If you don’t treat your sleep apnea, or your obstructed airways you could have a heart attack, you could have a stroke, you could have high blood pressure and these conditions can also lead to diabetes. Associated with all of these symptoms are being overweight, and stressful work or family life.
Therapy can aid your situation. You can use a breathing machine or a dental item to open your airways. Using a breathing machine is going to give you additional higher oxygen levels. The dental item is going to open your jaw so you don’t have an obstruction. There are also over the counter medications, such as the breath right strips and similar items, that can open your passages so you can breath all night long, and get the rest you need. If over the counter medications and items don’t work, you could seek the help of your family doctor, take a sleep test, and consider a surgical procedure that will correct the obstruction and then open the airways while you are sleeping.
