If you have a snoring problem, you might be wondering if it can be passed on to your children. Unfortunately, the answer is yes. According to research published in the journal “Chest” children with at least one parent who snored are 3 times more likely to snore themselves (compared to children whose parents did not snore).
Snoring can be a warning signal for an affliction known as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA causes breathing to stop while sleeping, due to obstructed air passages.
Snoring is a sign of difficulty breathing, but it is breathing at least. OSA can cause the sufferer to stop breathing for periods of over 10 seconds while sleeping, which then causes them to wake up gasping and choking for air.
This isn’t only a problem in the night either. OSA often leaves its victims with sore throats and headaches when they wake up in the morning. Lack of sleep due to OSA can lead to lack of concentration, bad behavior and general irritability.
If OSA goes untreated, it can lead to an increase in blood pressure, low oxygen levels in the blood and a greater chance of heart attack and stroke.
In the study done by “Chest”, 681 children from Cincinnati Childrens Hospital medical center were studied. The research also found that African-American children were about three times more likely to snore than other races.
Plus, it was found that children who test positive for Atopy (an indicator of allergies and asthma) were twice as likely to snore as those who tested negative.
The benefits of the study include identification of children who snore so the doctors could more accurately determine those that were at a higher risk of sleep disorders. This would allow them to work with the parents to help minimize any long-term damage, at the early stages or even before the problem materialized.

The origin cause of not getting sufficient sleep is discomfort and the main cause of not being comfortable enough is, of course, the mattress. If you have difficulties falling or staying asleep it could be due to the fact that your mattress is not comfortable enough and/or is not providing the right support in order to relax your body and mind into sleeping. When your body is allowed to rest in its natural position, muscles are relaxed and sleep is more refreshing.
Buying a comfortable mattress set is not something very hard, but buying the best in the market is sometimes very hard. Whatever bed frame you decide upon, it is important that you do not forget regarding the importance of choosing a quality bed mattress as well. Not only is sleeping an important part of our health in renewing our body, but sleeping on the right mattress size is also an important component to receiving that good night’s rest. As such, be sure to get the right mattress for yourself.
When it comes to mattress, the most important point to consider is your health. Some studies indicate that the four out of every five people complain about some form of back pain and often this back pain is associated with an improper mattress. There is nothing like a good night’s sleep.
The description of a good mattress is one that is comfortable and yet firm enough so that the body is properly supported during the sleeping process. A critical factor in the enjoyment of a good night’s sleep is a mattress that meets your needs. Maybe it’s time we turned to some of the better mattresses that we have available to us today.
One type of mattress I would recommend is latex foam mattresses. The latex mattress is soon to be the newest sleep system “craze” in North America, and it’s very popular right presently in Europe. With a latex foam mattress, you can change all of the trends in bad sleeping habits and start on the journey to good sleep instantly.
Latex foam mattresses are great for your body, spreading evenly underneath you causing absolutely no pressure points while you sleep deeply. If you have never tried a latex foam mattress in your home, you are missing out on what could be years of comfortable sleep in a universe that you cannot even begin to understand.
Latex foam mattress is made of the sap of rubber trees. If you suffer from back problems, sleep disorders, you toss and turn or you just want a fantastic night’s sleep every night, a memory foam mattress or a latex foam mattress may be just what you need. Latex foam mattresses do have pressure equalization property that gives you a sleep without tossing and turning at night. With a latex mattress, you have the opportunity to experience a superior level of comfort that just cannot be reached with a conventianal inner spring mattress. All the big names such as Sealy, Serta, Royal Pedic and Simmons all have come out with their own line of latex mattresses.
Your sleep depends on the mattress you are sleeping on. When you select your ideal mattress, you will need to get up on the mattress sin the store and lay on it. Is it too soft? Too hard?
Buying a new sleep system can be a big investment with many advantages, so you should be alert and pay attention. Do not forget that there are a number of features in a bed mattress that you may want to consider.
You have to know the basics of a mattress before choosing the right one for your needs and requirements. Often, it can be smart to take the time necessary to compare brands, styles and function between several model choices before you can actually purchase your mattress.
Be sure that you like the feel of the mattress in the store. When you are looking for a bed mattress, be sure to test out the options. Don’t be afraid to ask the salesperson questions, such as the different materials and the difference that could make for you. Remember, getting the right mattress is about your health. Do not fool around it.

If you want to find a way to lose weight faster, and you think
there is nothing new under the sun, then what I’m about to tell
you will really make you nod off.
According to Dr Kenneth Goodrick at Baylor, a good night’s sleep
is a vital ingredient for weight loss.
He believes that lack of sleep robs people of the energy they
need to exercise and sets up a vicious low-energy cycle that
sabotages your weight loss programme. Often when energy reserves
are low, people turn to high-fat and high-sugar laden foods or
caffeinated drinks for energy pick-me-ups…all of which interfere
with weight loss efforts. Some may drink 10 to 15 caffeinated
beverages a day, which has a adverse effect on sleep quality.
It’s a double whammy.
This is not the only fascinating connection between sleep and
weight gain. Researchers have found there are two hormones
involved. Leptin, a hormone that suppresses appetite, and
grehlin, which increases food intake and is thought to play a
role in long-term regulation of body weight. Sleep deprivation
lowers the levels of leptin and raises levels of grehlin. This
is thought to be the reason why obese people suffering with
sleep apnea often put on weight faster than others.
Goodrick says, “Sleep is a time for the brain, the body, and all
the hormones to get regulated and restore themselves to the
baseline values for the next day. If you have caffeine, or
inadequate sleep, you don’t have a chance for all of those
restorative processes to get finished. So you’re ending not
quite fit, or metabolically where you should be”.
What is a good night’s sleep? Participants in a US study who got
less than 4 hours of sleep each night were 73 percent more
likely to be obese than those who sleep between 7 and 9 hours a
night, the recommended amount. Those who slept only 5 hours each
night were 50 percent more likely to be overweight, and those
who slept 6 hours a night were 23 percent more likely to be
overweight.
It’s official, for good health we all need to wake up and get a
good night’s sleep.

My brother is sleeping right now and is snoring louder than a donkey. Recently he’s been asking me if he snores too loud, and I wonder if I snore as well. What causes snoring and how can you prevent it?
When you fall asleep the muscles in your mouth and throat relax. This causes snoring in some people when the muscles as the air passing through your nose cause the tissue in your nose and throat to vibrate.
Try sleeping on your side or stomach to get rid of the snoring. Sleeping on your back is usually the worst position for people who snore. If you still have a problem, you can try a "Breathe Right" strip over your nose, throat spray, a snore pillow, etc. Google those snoring remedies for more info if you can’t get rid of snoring.
i have no idea why but i need more than 14 hours of sleep everyday.i usually sleep at 5 am or so and wake up at 8 pm. the other day i slept at 8 pm and woke up at 4 pm the next day. what is wrong me? how should i reorganise my sleep?
my folks think that i do drugs, smoke pot and get wasted, while on the contrary i dont do any of these things. so what should i do here?
You need to see a doctor and have some blood work done. This is not normal and needs to be checked out.
I have tried to the nose strips, the throat sprays, sleeping on my side, and anything thing else I can think of….my boyfriend HATES it and we think I might have real medical issue, but I would like to try herbs before going to an ENT doctor.
Chronic Sleep Apnea. Or whatever the right term is will not be solved by any medicine, natural or synthetic. Your solution consists of:
1. Wear a head brace. It straps your jaw shut which relieves your air passage.
2. Sleep on your side. It again relieves the passage.
3. Surgery.
4. Use a breathing machine. It basically rams air down your throat for you so you don’t have to struggle to suck it in.
Basically, besides keeping others awake, your being sleep deprived. It makes you die younger, among other things.
5. On last method is that like plastic u-shaped clamp that goes in your nostrils. It works for some people who’s problem is not too severe.
When you go to sleep, relax ALL of your muscles, especially in your neck. If you then snore in order to inhale, then change positions. Keep experimenting until you’ve found a position that does not force you to snore. Usually you’ll have to sleep on your side.
If you doctor perscribes clinical observation, your HMO should pay for it.
But sorry, it’s not something that can be dealt with with medicine.
My heart skips beats all through the day, and my
heart rate stays well above one hundred all of the
time. I have been to a cardiologist, and he gave me
a stress test and a ultrasound of my heart. Every
thing came back normal. So, I would like to know
what is causing this because it is driving me crazy!!
I have a history of sleep apnea, but I am not sure if
this is the problem.
Untreated sleep apnea can cause all sorts of problems, both physical and emotional. Your organs, such as your heart, simply do not get enough oxygen to function well. It may be that you also have anxiety, which can also cause palpitations. You really ought to be tested for sleep apnea in a sleep lab, and then get a CPAP machine to wear over your nose at night. You will feel better within a week or so, and the distressing symptoms will go away. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. My very best wishes to you.
Though I cannot confirm this situation since i cannot hear myself while sleeping, but i believe it becouse my father use to snore very well and my brothers do too. How can i stop snoring with or without medication.I need help.
It’s possible to treat snoring through lifestyle modifications such as losing weight, quitting smoking, changing sleep habits, and avoiding alcohol and sedatives before you go to bed. If snoring is due to nasal congestion, nasal strips, decongestants, or nasal corticosteroid sprays may be used. If these modifications do not improve the snoring, then it is time to see a doctor.

Sleep is not just resting or taking a break from busy routines – it is essential to physical and emotional health. Adequate sleep may also play a role in helping the body recover from illness and injury. Inadequate sleep over a period of time is associated with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and depression.
But, the emotional and mental benefits of sleep are also significant. Even occasional sleeping problems can make daily life feel more stressful and less productive.
