any home remedies for snoring

If you check out my Q & A’s I have answered many many of this same question. I dont recommend surgery, it has very poor success rate. You should be tested for sleep apnea as snoring is a sign of disordered breathing. Good luck.

No home remedies worth bothering with. Have someone listen to your snoring watching for apnea — brief cessations of breathing. These can be a problem, which can be fixed surgically; snoring will be reduced as a side effect. Ask your doctor about UPPP.

There are a lot of things that worsen snoring. Alcohol, Smoking, over eating, under excercising, and caffeine. Smoking restrics your air passages. Sleeping on your back can cause louder snoring because your toungue is being dropped back and narrowing the airway, so that it is harder for the passage of air. Practice breathing through your nose a lot so that when you are sleeping you can subconciensly breathe through your nose. Other simple home remedies are: 1. Elevating your head with pillows or raising the head of your bed, reducing the chances of your throat muscles from blocking the air passages. 2. Like a said before, don’t sleep on your back, sleep on your side. 3. That alcohol you should definately not drink before you eat if you dont want to snore. Alcohol relaxes your throught muscles causing the airway to narrow. 4. Avoid sleeping pills or anything sleep-inducing. Other than these home cures, there are options of over-the-counter anti-snoring pills, throat sprays, and nasal strips. Hope i helped. :)

You need to get checked for sleep apnea. Snoring is one of the symptoms of it. Sometimes you also wake yourself up with a jerking motion when your brain tells you to start breathing again. Talk to your doctor. You may need a sleep study for a diagnosis…….

    SELF-CARE
To prevent or quiet snoring, try these tips:

a.- If you’re overweight, lose weight.
    - Being overweight is a common cause of snoring.
    - Loose throat tissues are more likely to vibrate as you breathe,
    - and extra bulkiness in the throat narrows your airway.

    b.- Sleep on your side.
    - Lying on your back allows your tongue to fall backward into your throat, narrowing your airway and partially obstructing airflow.
    - To prevent sleeping on your back, try sewing a tennis ball in the back of your pajama top.

    c.- Nasal strips.
    - Adhesive strips applied to your nose help many people increase the area of their nasal passage, enhancing their breathing.

d.- Treat nasal congestion or obstruction.
    - Having a deviated septum or allergies can limit airflow through your nose. This forces you to breathe through your mouth, increasing the likelihood of snoring.
    - Don’t use an oral or spray decongestant for more than three days in a row for acute congestion unless directed to do so by your doctor.
    - Ask your doctor about a prescription steroid spray if you have chronic congestion.
    - To correct a deviated septum, you may need surgery.

e.- Limit or avoid alcohol and sedatives.
    - Avoid drinking alcohol at least four hours before bedtime,
    - and let your doctor know about your snoring before taking sedatives or hypnotics.
    - Sedatives and hypnotics (sleeping pills) and alcohol depress your central nervous system, causing excessive relaxation of muscles, including the tissues in your throat.
    - In addition, if you stop breathing due to obstructive sleep apnea, it may take longer for you to begin breathing again because alcohol, sedatives and hypnotics blunt the brain’s ability to arouse from sleep.
